Unlike external add- ins such as keyboards and mice, the internal hardware that can be added to a desktop device is designed specifically for each device. Including for Mac Pro which of course has a different ecosystem from the desktop PC. To that end, the AMD Radeon PRO W6000X series was released last week.
Yes, this is the latest graphics card from AMD which has been built using the innovative AMD RDNA 2 architecture. With today’s increasingly complex visual displays, desktop devices require higher power, including graphics processing. The AMD Radeon PRO W6000X is the latest solution for creators and professionals working within the Apple ecosystem.
Released in three different series, this latest line of AMD GPUs is claimed to deliver outstanding performance and visual acuity and bring improvements far from the previous series. Able to support a wide variety of applications and professional workloads. Includes 3D rendering, 8K video and more.
AMD Radeon PRO W6000X Series Designed to be Efficient & Powerful
In a release received by Gizmologi (5/8), Corporate VP & GM, AMD Graphics Business Unit, Scott Herkelman said, “We developed the AMD Radeon PRO W6000X series graphics card to unleash the creativity of professionals and help them realize more complex projects and computing. intensive, from animating 3D movie assets to composing 8K scenes, to game development.”
Scott added, “This new GPU is packed with high energy efficiency, an upgraded computing unit and new visual channels. “Allows Mac Pro users to do more in less time across a variety of pro applications,” he added.
Some of the key capabilities of the new AMD Radeon PRO W6000X GPU series are offered. Just like the latest Ryzen processors, this GPU specifically designed for Mac Pro also uses the award-winning AMD RDNA 2 architecture. Thanks to an efficient 7nm fabrication process while improving graphics processing.
The memory variant used is also high-speed GDDR6, supporting professional applications with intensive data streams. Plus two other technologies such as the integrated AMD Infinity Cache of up to 256MB to reduce latency, and AMD Infinity Fabric which provides high bandwidth and a direct connection between the graphics card and CPU.
Enables Quad GPU Setup For Mac Pro
There are three variants of the AMD Radeon PRO W6000X offered. The most standard variant is the AMD Radeon PRO W6800X, which when compared to the Radeon PRO W5700X, has twice the performance of up to 32 Teraflops (vs. 18.9 Teraflops). Also on par with the regular W6800 variant, only it has a slightly lower clockspeed, adapting to Apple’s architecture.
The second variant, the AMD Radeon PRO W6900X, is a mid-range offering, with 80CU and 5120 stream processors. The memory capacity is still the same at 32GB GDDR6, with 128MB Infinity Cache and 256-bit wide bus. Then the highest tier, AMD Radeon PRO W6800X Duo is the fastest offering in the latest series this time.
As the name implies, this is a GPU with two W6800X series combined into one, bringing twice the performance with 64GB of GDDR6 memory. The Mac Pro architecture itself allows users to use two MPX GPU modules. So technically, it can be maximized to Quad-GPU through this highest variant of the AMD Radeon PRO W6000X.
To design a Mac Pro with this GPU, it costs quite a bit, considering the really fast performance. The Radeon W6800X option will cost up to USD 2,400 (Rp 34 million), while the highest tier, W6800X Duo can reach USD 4,600 (Rp 66 million).
