Having a mobile laptop , 2 in 1, is not the desire of many people. But believe me, there is a special market segment that really prefers this kind of laptop over heavy, bulky and high-performance laptops .
This is because of its practicality that can make it carried everywhere, which is not surprising to make most fans of this laptop are students or from the middle to upper professional circles.
Middle to high, because most laptops on the market that belong to this type have a hefty price for their specifications, and the one that we think is the best you can buy is this Lenovo Yoga C940 (14 inch)!

The main advantages of this laptop are a very attractive design, relatively high performance and very optimal, and an incredibly comfortable keyboard.
The biggest drawbacks include being expensive for ‘ordinary’ performance, losing battery life compared to its competitors, stingy ports , and the webcam does not have facial recognition features.
Pricing and Availability
When this laptop was first launched at the end of 2019, the official price of this laptop reached Rp. 25,499,000, – As for now in some e-commerce, we get this laptop in the price range of Rp. 21,990,000, – to Rp. 25,499,000, –
For the SKU of this laptop itself, there are only one or two kinds. Namely, those with FHD to UHD resolutions, and those with a memory capacity of 512 GB to those with a memory capacity of 2TB.
However, for Lenovo’s current C class (Convertible Series) laptop, you can choose the 9i which is priced at around 28 million rupiah or the C930 which is priced around 21 million rupiah.
All Lenovo Yogas in class C are meant for professionals, and not gamers. So it does have a performance that is quite fitting coupled with an above average battery life.
Design
Classed into one of Intel’s ‘ Project Athena’ laptops , the Lenovo Yoga C940 is one of the best you can buy. Even though this laptop was launched about 1 year ago (late 2019).
The C code owned by this laptop refers to the term convertible which means this laptop has the ability to be changed. When using this laptop, you can make it a laptop or tablet, aka a 2 in 1 laptop .
The body owned by this laptop is also very slim, aka has a slim form factor and has 4 opening modes. Namely tablet mode, note book / laptop, tent mode, and display mode .
In addition, this laptop is also very elegant with the aluminum material used. As for the overall design, we think it looks beautiful where Lenovo decided to use a hinge that connects from end to end.
The colors that you can choose when you want to own this laptop, although limited, but we really like it. The colors are iron gray and mica. Both in our opinion are very cool colors and not tacky.
The dimensions of this laptop are 320 mm x 215 mm x 14.5 – 15.7 mm, which makes it a fairly thin one with a 14-inch screen. Its weight is also quite light, which is only about 1.38 kg plus 228 grams of adapter .
The adapter owned by this laptop is indeed of medium size, but interestingly this laptop already has an adapter connector that uses USB Type C which makes it quite versatile and can be used for your cellphone.
The thing to note in terms of size and weight is that, because it uses a larger screen compared to its competitors, it can be said that this laptop is not the thinnest and lightest.
The Lenovo Yoga C940 is still bigger and heavier when compared to the Dell XPS 13 2 in 1 which has a 13.4 inch screen, or the HP Specter x360 with its 13.3 inch screen. Even this laptop is still slightly heavier than the HP Elite Dragonfly (~1.1 kg) despite having the same 14-inch screen.
Although the difference is quite thin, but in our opinion this is one of the things that is quite important. Where consumers who buy laptops in this class are usually consumers who are more thorough, more careful, and have very specific preferences.
One thing that quite affects the size and weight of this laptop is the bezel it has. Where HP and Dell have decided to use a very small (2.2 mm) webcam on their ultraportable laptop .
Instead of using a similar design, the Lenovo Yoga C940 uses a webcam with a fairly large camera size and with a physical cover which is actually useful but makes the laptop’s bezels a bit thick.
Display
One of the requirements for Project Athena made by Intel is that the laptop must have a screen with a size between 12 inches to 15 inches and a touchscreen , and the Lenovo Yoga C940 has met these requirements with its 14 inch screen.
As we explained earlier, in terms of screen design, it is quite elegant where this laptop has very thin bezels. Although the bezel at the top of the laptop is still quite thick.
The screen quality ( base model ) offered by the Lenovo Yoga C940 is 14 inches in size, FHD 1920 x 1080 resolution, with an IPS panel 60 Hz refresh rate , 400 nits brightness level, and 100% sRGB.
Besides that, you can also get a higher version of this laptop that has a better screen quality. Where has a resolution of 4K (3840 x 2160) and a brightness level of up to 500 nits.
Although when you decide to buy a Lenovo Yoga with a 4K resolution screen, of course you have to consider battery life. In addition, 4K resolution on a 14-inch screen according to some people is actually not very useful, aka overkill .
What is clear is that both for the FHD screen version or the 4K screen offered by this laptop, both in our opinion already have a pretty good color output with a color gamut reaching 100% sRGB and a brightness level of 400 to 500 nits!
In addition, one of the requirements required by Intel for this Project Athena laptop is that it must be compatible with a stylus. Lenovo itself even provides a stylus specifically for this laptop.
You can take the stylus from the Lenovo Yoga C940 from the back of this laptop. When it’s not in use and you put it back in its place, the stylus from this laptop will automatically charge , practically!
Keyboard
Talking about Lenovo laptops seems lacking if we don’t talk about the quality of the keyboard it has. Because Lenovo has long been known as one of the laptop manufacturers who are able to make keyboards with fantastic quality.
Talking about spacing, travel distance, or even the very soft feel of this laptop makes us personally like this laptop. In fact, we do not hesitate to mention that the keyboard owned by this laptop is suitable for use by writers, editors, and other touch typists .
In terms of design too, even though the template is ordinary. However, this laptop is equipped with backlighting which has two brightness levels. You can adjust the brightness of this laptop keyboard using the Fn key + spacebar, it’s easy!
In our opinion, the touchpad that is owned is normal, even a bit ‘unhappy’ when compared to the quality of the number one keyboard. Even so, the touchpad that already supports Windows Precision Driver is okay.
The position possessed by the touchpad of the Lenovo C940 is also quite stable, where its position is just below the space key. The size is also very fitting, not too big, even though it doesn’t have a dedicated click button.
This laptop is also equipped with a fingerprint sensor which is separate from the touchpad . The fingerprint sensor of this laptop is in the lower right corner, just below the keyboard .
Interestingly, of the many laptops that already have a fingerprint sensor, we think the Lenovo Yoga C940 is one of the laptops that has a very fast fingerprint reading speed!
Ports and Connectivity
On the left side of this laptop you can find 1 fruit port USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type A, 2 port USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type C, which already supports Thunderbolt 3 , and 1 piece of audio ports combojack .
As for the right side you can’t find any ports at all. Yes, this laptop is only equipped with ports that are entirely on the left side, while on the right side you can only find the power button .
Meanwhile, in terms of connectivity, this laptop already supports Intel WiFi 6 AX201 which is certainly not a big thing. This is very reasonable, especially considering the price offered by this laptop is quite expensive.
This WiFi already supports multi-user MIMO and gigabyte WiFi . In addition, the Lenovo Yoga C940 is also supported with Bluetooth v5.0 which makes it have high-speed connectivity.
One of the drawbacks of this laptop, of course, is the lack of ports offered. Even this laptop is not equipped with an HDMI port which makes you have to buy a thunderbolt 3 to DisplayPort / HDMI to use an external screen.
Battery and Performance
Equipped with an Intel Core i7 1065G7 who have clockspeed basis Hz 1:30 that can boost up to 3.90 GHz. In addition, this processor also has 4 cores and 8 threads with a maximum TDP value of 15 Watts and a smart cache of 8 MB.
Although currently most laptops already have an 11th generation Intel processor, when it was launched this laptop had fulfilled one of the requirements of Project Athena, namely using a 10th generation Core i5 or i7, which at that time was already quite great.
In addition, the memory used by this laptop is quite large. This Lenovo Yoga C940 already uses 16 GB of LPDDR4X RAM with 3733 MHz which of course can support you when you have to work.
Keep in mind that the RAM owned by the Lenovo Yoga C940 is a dual slot on board RAM that is soldered inside this laptop. One of the reasons why this laptop is so thin, even though it is not being upgrade-able .
Meanwhile, the storage capacity of this laptop is also quite large and fast. Lenovo Yoga C940 already uses a capable NVMe PCIe SSD with a capacity of 512 GB.
The read speed of the SSD from the Lenovo Yoga C940 has also reached 3500 MBps, and its write speed has reached 2990 MBps. A very impressive record, although quite reasonable for a laptop in this class.
The GPU used by this laptop is the default GPU from Intel. Namely Intel Iris Plus Graphics Ice Lake which is one of the improvements when compared to the previous Lenovo Yoga series.
Before opening the test scores, please note that this laptop has several performance modes like most other laptops today. Some of the choices are intelligent cooling, extreme performance, or battery saving which can be changed by pressing the Fn + Q keys.
As for the scores from some of the tests carried out, this laptop has successfully passed it with a pretty good score. First, testing using 3DMark Sky Diver got a score of 8366.
The tests carried out using 3DMark Fire Strike obtained a score of 2424, testing using 3DMark Time Spy obtained a score of 874. This score is quite impressive which can outperform the Dell XPS 13 7390, Microsoft Surface Pro 7, to HP Specter x360 13 even though it is thin. just.
As for testing using Cinebench R15, a score of 605 points was obtained, and when tested using Cinebench R20, a score of 1385 points was obtained. While testing using Geekbench 4.3 obtained a score of 18029.
This score is even higher when compared to the HP Elite Dragonfly which recorded a score of 1059 on Cinebench R20 and a score of 13893 only when tested using Geekbench 4.3.
In addition, one of the points that we think is very interesting is that, when tested with many loops, the consistency is very high. The difference between the lowest and highest scores is even less than 4%!
Also keep in mind that this laptop is claimed to be one of the most ideal Project Athena laptops . Where this laptop has a stable and consistent performance when the condition of the laptop is plugged in or using only the battery.
As for when you try to play DOTA 2 1080p fastest 100% rendering , you get a frame rate of 60 to 90 FPS. Well, when you try to play CS: GO 1080p low , you get a frame rate of 80-120 FPS.
Now when it’s done to play AAA class games like Tomb Raider (2013) at normal settings , you can get a frame rate of around 30-40 FPS. Low? Well at least it’s still playable, and it’s important to remember that this laptop isn’t meant to play games, right?
If you really want to play AAA class games in 2020-2021, then our advice is to use an external GPU. In some tests we found that this laptop was even able to run Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey very high and SOTR very high well.
This can be achieved by this laptop because the configuration owned by this laptop is optimal. You could even say the external GPU you have, even the RTX 2000 will not be useful without a good configuration.
When I tried to export a 2-minute 4K video with a little editing, then exported it to Youtube 4K 60 FPS, I got 20:37 when using the extreme performance preset .
In our opinion, the battery life of this laptop is not too good, where when we tried to play 1080p videos nonstop, we only got 7 hours and 40 minutes!
Although this record is lower than the previous version, we think this laptop is still worth buying and carrying all day. Moreover, this may be due to increased performance.
In addition, this time record can indeed be greatly improved, for example by activating battery saving mode , turning off WiFi or using airplane mode , to lowering the screen brightness level.
However, one of the drawbacks of this laptop is that it does not have fast charging facilities . But luckily the charging speed from 0 to 100% can be obtained in less than 2 hours!
Webcam
Although the webcam owned by this laptop is larger when compared to some of its competitors such as HP and Dell’s webcams. We somewhat regret the absence of the IR sensor feature needed for Windows Hello facial recognition .
In fact, the majority of laptops in this class are equipped with a webcam that features an IR sensor. So that a face recognition feature can be added as an additional biometric security option on a laptop.
As for the quality of the webcam owned by this laptop, we think it’s normal, which is 720p 30 FPS. If you do use a webcam regularly then our advice, you should buy an external webcam.
Audio
Instead of using speakers that are placed inside the laptop body, Lenovo provides a soundbar that is placed right in the hinge, aka the hinge corner of the Lenovo C940.
Upfiring speakers that are owned by this laptop of course make the sound quality produced, from the start to be very good. Especially when you compare it to a laptop that has downfiring speakers .
In addition, this laptop is also equipped with the default Dolby Atmos software which we think is very helpful in daily use. You can adjust various presets and sound settings through this application.
In addition, this laptop also has far field voice service, where this laptop can be ‘called’ remotely. The benefit of this feature is to call digital assistants such as Alexa and Cortana.
How far? At least you can call this laptop from the same room as the laptop’s position. So you can use a digital assistant, or even make many smart home devices controlled centrally!
For this kind of premium ultraportable laptop , of course, these features are a must which Lenovo has successfully realized. Which personally makes us like this laptop even more.
Hot
The core temperature possessed by this laptop on average ( intelligent cooling mode ) is obtained at 87-90oC with occasional spiking up to 96oC, which of course is quite high, although not too dangerous.
As for when tested in extreme performance mode , the core temperature of this laptop CPU reaches 95-97oC. Even this temperature can survive at this number if driven to the maximum.
Of course, this temperature has one risk that is often faced by high-performance laptops, namely thermal throttling . One way to solve this problem, of course, is to make sure the surface on which the laptop sits has good airflow.
While the surface temperature of this laptop is 30-40oC. The palmrest temperature can reach temperatures of less than 35oC. Meanwhile, the highest temperature achieved by the surface of this laptop reaches 45-47oC.
With a record that the surface temperature is quite high, this is achieved when maximum performance testing is carried out using Cinebench. Of course, in real word usage , this temperature will be very rarely achieved.
Conclusion
Being one of the premium ultraportable laptops available on the market today, the Lenovo Yoga C940 comes at a price that is quite expensive. However, this laptop is made for certain market segments.
Some of the reasons to buy this laptop are that you need a laptop that is premium and compact and mobile, you need a versatile 2 in 1 laptop , and you need a laptop that has an above average keyboard quality.
As for us, some of the reasons not to buy this laptop are if you need a laptop with audio quality above average, your finances are limited, and you need a laptop that really has a high battery life.
